Today's Chaos:

The experiment is simple, I am growing plants... to see how big they get (it gets more exciting I promise) I was given two different pepper plants from my wonderful mother-in-law (<3). The first pot had two bell pepper plants growing in it, the second pot had two cayenne pepper plants growing it it.

Here are my the bell pepper plants:

Bella and Beatrice

Here are my two cayenne pepper plants:

Chen and Kenna

Since I have four plants, two of each kind, I am going to see what happens when I give one of each kind a dose of Gibberellic Acid. Found here: www.unitednuclear.com

Gibberellic Acid is a plant growth hormone, apparently a very strong one. I am curious if I can get giant peppers the size of my head to grow, hence the experiment.

What I have done so far:

Bell Peppers:Bella is going to be my control plant for the bell peppers, and Beatrice is going to be the one that I experiment on. They were sharing the same dirt space, and that would cause contamination of the control plant. Gibberellic Acid is dripped onto the soil and washed into the dirt with water. So I moved Beatrice into her own plant pot. The soil I used was Miracle Grow. Its suppose to be rich in nutrients, which is good, because Gibberellic Acid (hopefully) will make Beatrice grow like mad, and she will need a lot of nutrients to maintain growth. I am not sure what kind of dirt Bella was sitting in, so to make sure they both had equal ground I re-potted Bella in Miracle Grow as well.

I should probably buy Bella a big plant pot like Beatrice so there is not a difference between the control and the experiment. I might do that later. But for now, Beatrice is sitting in a big plant pot with miracle grow soil, and Bella is in the smaller plant pot with miracle grow soil.

Cayenne Peppers: Chen is going to be my control plant for the cayenne peppers, and Kenna is going to be the one I experiment on. For reasons stated above, I replaced both Chen and Kenna in different plant pots. Both with Miracle grow soil. Chen has the smaller plant pot, and Kenna has the bigger plant pot.

Gibberellic Acid: I am still waiting for it to show up on my porch.

Here are all my plants lined up inside. It has been pointed out to me that they should probaby be outside, I think I shall move them outside for the next update.

The experiment and the method:

I wish to see how much bigger a Gibberellic Acid diet will make a my peppers grow compared to the traditional plant diet of water.

Both control and experiment will be watered and given the same sunlight (they are both in the same window). The only difference will be the addition of Gibberellic Acid to my experiment plants Beatrice and Kenna.

I will measure the plants growth every day (after I get the Gibberellic Acid in the mail) and record my findings. I will measure from the dirt to the tallest leaf. I will also be comparing the pepper sizes, when they grow. If my plants get too big to keep inside (they will, I hope ^.~) I will replant all of them outside.

Unknown factors/variables that will change the result:

  • I do not know where these plants came from, I did not grow them from seeds, so the plants could be different. Already Chen is much taller then her sister Kenna even though they came from the same plant pot.
  • Different pot sizes, which will effect how big the roots will be able to get.

Different water amounts. I think Beatrice and Kenna will get more water then Bella and Chen because of the difference in plant pot sizes. I keep the soil moist at all times. The bigger plant pots have more soil, which gives them more water.
